吴宇英以一等荣誉学位从英国皇家音乐学院毕业后,在新加坡交响乐团担任小提琴手,开始了他的职业生涯。本科期间,他师从克拉伦斯·迈尔斯科(Clarence Myerscough)和埃里希·格林伯格(Erich Greenberg),并师从国际知名小提琴家安娜-索菲·穆特(Anna-Sophie Mutter)。在这里,他被授予亚历克斯·邓普顿奖、罗斯奖和多米尼恩奖学金。他曾多次作为独奏家与新加坡交响乐团合作。他的独奏音乐会以及与中提琴家吉里·黑格尔的合作使他来到了捷克共和国,在那里他在音乐会和电视直播节目中演出。

1992年,吴与他人共同创立了唐四重奏,首次亮相就广受好评,并以其音乐性和才华横溢的技术吸引了观众。通过精心制作的音乐表现力和无与伦比的曲目,他们将新加坡带上了世界舞台,并挖掘了音乐史上埋藏的宝藏的新维度。 1997年,四重奏获得奖学金,前往美国与克利夫兰四重奏的著名艺术家玛莎和保罗·卡茨、诺曼·费舍尔、肯尼思·戈德史密斯和塞尔吉乌·卢卡一起在莱斯大学谢泼德音乐学院训练和表演。

凭借他们的个人魅力和作为一个团队的直觉联系,他们以成功的舞台个性为世界各地的音乐厅增光添彩,恰如其分地反映了他们的音乐:毫不费力的聪明、敏锐和国际化。唐四重奏因其多产的音乐才华而获得国际赞誉,在英国、美国、欧洲、澳大利亚、新西兰、中国和东南亚的主要音乐节上吸引了观众。他们目前是新加坡国立大学杨秀桃音乐学院的常驻四重奏组。自杨秀桃音乐学院开学以来,吴玉英一直担任该学院的小提琴教师,并且作为小提琴教师的需求量很大。

他曾在莱佛士国际音乐节和新加坡国际小提琴节等音乐节上主持过许多大师班。他经常被邀请担任节日和比赛的评委。

She was a Festival Artist at the 10th Asia Flutists Congress in Shanghai, served as a jury member for the 3rd Asia Flute Federation Junior Competition and Music Singapore International Competition 2025, and has given masterclasses at the Kings Flute Festival and Music Society of Myanmar Festival. She has also mentored young flautists at the Singapore National Youth Sinfonia and OMM Orchestra Camp.

Beyond performance, Rachel’s passion for music’s impact on intergenerational interactions and well-being is reflected in her community engagements with children, at-risk youths, the elderly, and persons with dementia. She has presented her research on these topics at international symposiums in Singapore (YST Performers(’) Present), Thailand (PGVIS), and Australia (SIMM-posium).

Dedicated to arts education and youth development, Rachel was part of the 2021 Global Leaders Institute for Arts Innovation and the Southeast Asian Directors of Music (SEADOM) 30 under 30 project. She has also conducted workshops at the Youth Arts Leaders Conference, Global Strings Federation Youth Orchestra Festival, and served as a panellist on exploring music careers and pathways at the WBAS Youth Band Festival. 

Rachel graduated as valedictorian in Flute Performance from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music (YST) and holds a Master’s in Music Education from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. She is currently a full-time faculty member at YST, where she serves on the academic team of the MS/MCP and MMusL programmes. She teaches contextual studies, professional integration, community engagement, and flute area studies, encouraging students to explore music’s role in society.
