Ye Lin

Ye Lin began studying the violin at the age of five and received her early training at the Primary and Secondary Schools affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under Professors Zhang Shixiang and Fang Lei. At twelve, she made her solo debut with the Shanghai Opera House Symphony Orchestra.

 

A prize winner at the China National Violin Competition (1998) and the 9th International Wieniawski Youth Violin Competition in Poland (2003), Ye Lin later graduated from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, National University of Singapore, as a National Arts Council Scholarship recipient. She studied with Professor Qian Zhou, won the inaugural YST Concerto Competition in 2004, and claimed first prize in the Violin Open Category of the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition in 2005. In 2006, she broadened her artistic training as an exchange student at the Peabody Institute under Victor Danchenko.

 

Since joining the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in 2008, Ye Lin has been an active chamber musician, regularly performing with her string quartet and piano trio at the Esplanade Recital Studio and Victoria Concert Hall. She has collaborated with Albert Tiu, the Stradivari Quartet, and violinists Thomas Zehetmair, Peter Hanson, and Alina Ibragimova. From 2003 until graduation, she served as acting concertmaster of the YST Conservatory Orchestra.

 

A dedicated educator, Ye Lin has been on the faculty of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts School of Young Talents since 2012. She is known for her insightful and individualized approach to teaching, which has nurtured many promising young musicians. Her students have earned numerous accolades, including Cathy Chen Xi, winner of the 2025 Zhuhai International Mozart Competition for Young Musicians (Junior Category), the Singapore National Piano and Violin Competition (Junior& Intermediate Violin Category), and the Grumiaux International Violin Competition in Belgium.
