Korean percussionist Seung-Myeong Oh is an internationally recognized performer, conductor, and educator. He graduated from Chugye University for the Arts, where he also earned a Master’s degree in Conducting and is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Conducting. He further completed both his Master’s degree and Postgraduate Performer’s Diploma with greatest distinction at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp, and earned a Master’s degree in Chamber Music from the Lemmens Institute.
He gained international recognition as the first Korean laureate to receive Second Prize (with no First Prize awarded) at the International Percussion Competition in Italy, and was awarded the Grand Prize at the Sacheon International Percussion Competition.
Oh has performed extensively across Europe and Asia and is regularly invited as a jury member for major international competitions, including the Universal Marimba Competition, the Thailand International Percussion Competition, the Percussive Arts Society Italy Percussion Competition, and the IPEA International Percussion Competition.
He currently serves as Principal Timpanist of the Jeju Philharmonic Orchestra, Artistic Director of the Jeju International Percussion Festival and the Seogwipo International Winter Music Festival, and Music Director and Conductor of the Oh Percussion Ensemble. He is also the Conductor of the Jeju Nanum Orchestra and the Ara Wind Orchestra.
In addition to his performing career, he is active in education as a lecturer at Chugye University for the Arts and Jeju National University, contributing to the development of the next generation of percussionists.
