
Liu Sha began studying the piano at the age of three and the flute at the age of eight. She trained under distinguished flute professors from China, Japan, France and Austria. She was later awarded a scholarship to study at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) in Singapore, where she studied flute under Mr. Jin Ta, Principal Flautist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.
She was awarded First Prize at the Yamaha Asia Winds Competition. During her undergraduate studies, she also pursued orchestral conducting under a conductor from the Cologne Symphony Orchestra in Germany.
Upon graduation, she joined the faculty of NAFA, where she teaches in the School of Young Talents Programme.
An active performer and educator, Liu Sha has been invited to collaborate in major concerts with the University of Music and Performing Arts Linz (Austria) and the Japan Flute Association. She is also regularly invited to serve as a jury member for international music competitions, including the Singapore Flute Festival, the Raffles International Music Competition, the Music Singapore International Competition, and one of the largest wind music competitions in Central China, attracting more than 3,000 participants annually.
In addition to her adjudicating work, she is a sought-after masterclass clinician and has presented masterclasses at the Singapore Flute Festival, as well as in Wuhan and Shanghai, China.
With years of teaching experience, her students consistently achieve Distinction in ABRSM examinations and have garnered top prizes at prestigious international competitions across the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, Sweden, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and beyond. Her students have won First Prize at the Italian International Youth Instrumental Competition, as well as First, Second and Third Prizes in multiple divisions of the Hong Kong International Flute Competition. Many of her students have also been invited to perform at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Hongkong, Wuhan, Austria and Sweden.
Recognised for her commitment to artistic excellence and music education, Liu Sha continues to inspire the next generation of flautists through teaching, performance, international adjudication, masterclasses, and cross-cultural artistic collaborations.
