Steinway Artist Poom Prommachart, originally from Bangkok, Thailand, is a dedicated full-time lecturer and Program Leader for the BA (Hons) in Music Performance at the Department of Film and Performing Arts, Sunway University. He also holds the prestigious title of Elite Fellow at the Music Faculty of the University of Malaya.

 

In May 2023, Poom’s talent was recognized when he won the award for Best Solo Performance for Instrumental Music at the 18th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards. He earned his Doctor of Music degree from the University of Montreal, where he was placed on the Rector’s List of Honour for Most Exceptional Graduates. 

 

Poom's educational journey includes his time at the Royal College of Music in London, where he received his Bachelor of Music, Master of Music, and Artist Diploma on a scholarship sponsored by H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana of Thailand and the RCM. His achievements culminated in being awarded the prestigious Tagore Gold Medal, presented to him by Prince Charles (now King Charles III). His studies continued at the Moscow Conservatory. 

 

Poom gained international acclaim in 2010 after winning the gold medal at the Fifth Isidor Bajic International Piano Competition in Serbia. Since then, he has performed with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the Kazakhstan Philharmonic Orchestra, Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra, London Musician Symphony Orchestra, Timisoara Philharmonic Orchestra of Romania, National Symphony Orchestra of Serbia, Worthing Symphony Orchestra, and Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra. Recently, he performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra at Prince Mahidol Hall and Yuen Long Theatre, and with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra at Japan's prestigious Suntory Hall.

 

In addition, Australian composer Carl Vine has commissioned Poom for the world premiere of “Three Fantasies”, supported by United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB) at Hong Kong University.

 

In 2020, Poom's exceptional artistry was further recognized when he was awarded the Grand Prize at the Orford Music Award in Canada.
