Donald Law – Pianist

Hailed as a “highly musical personality” by The Straits Times, Donald Law is a distinguished solo and collaborative pianist known for his expressive performances and technical mastery. A prize winner of numerous national and international competitions, he has garnered recognition for his musicality and versatility.


Donald’s impressive accolades include 1st prize at the 7th Lucien Wang Piano Competition in 2016, and 2nd prize at the Nanyang International Music Competition in 2017, among others. His talents have led him to perform at numerous prestigious summer music festivals and concerts across Europe, including England, Germany, Italy, Serbia, and Montenegro, where he has shared the stage with renowned international artists in both solo and chamber music performances.


A notable highlight of his career was his performance of Smetana’s Piano Trio in G minor Op. 15, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 25 in C K. 503, and Piano Concerto No. 17 in G K. 453 as the soloist with the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Wind Ensemble in four concerts, which was met with critical acclaim. Additionally, in 2018, Donald was invited to give concerts in Ru Gao, China, as part of Musikschule Kirn-Meisenheim-Bad Sobemheim’s cultural exchange programme. His musical journey has also led him to perform for prominent events, including a piano recital at the Beijing Kerry Center Hotel in China for Kerry Oils & Grains Co. Ltd. during their announcement of becoming a supplier for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Donald also contributed to the Art of Healing series at Tan Tock Seng (TTS) Hospital, performing piano recitals at the TTS Hospital Atrium, where his performances helped bring a sense of comfort and joy to patients and visitors alike.


Throughout his academic career, Donald has been the recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Overseas-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) Undergraduate Scholarship, in which he was featured in the scholarship magazine “Sparks” with an article titled “Let Passion Lead the Way”; he was also a recipient of the Ngee Ann Kongsi Merit Award, and Tay Chay Bing Bursary. Donald graduated with distinction from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) with a Diploma in Music, later earned a First-Class Honours in his Bachelor of Music in Performance and a Masters of Music at the Royal College of Music in London, where he was awarded the prestigious Henry Wood Trust Fund. His mentors include Ashley Wass, Dina Parakhina, Lena Ching and Boris Kraljevic. Donald has also had the privilege of working with renowned pianists such as Ivan Klánsky, Hüseyin Sermet, Noriko Ogawa, and the late Dennis Lee.


Donald’s performances have been regularly reviewed and featured in local newspapers. He actively serves as a juror for various piano competitions both locally and internationally and have been invited to teach in masterclasses where he shares his musical views and expertise. In 2020, Donald expanded his artistic journey with the KNS Classical label, releasing his solo album Evolution, a reflection of his ever-evolving artistry and passion for piano performance.


Donald serves as Artistic Director of several international festivals, including the Internationales Musikfestival Rhein-Nahe (Germany) and the Asia-East Piano Festival (China). He is also a faculty member of Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) and a collaborative pianist with the Voices of Singapore, appearing on their recent Naxos release Songs of Dreams. As a performer and educator, Donald continues to inspire audiences around the world, committed to advancing the art of music through both his performance career and his involvement in nurturing future generations of pianists.
