Christine Octaviani

MMus FRSM FTCL FLCM L(Mus)TCL

Christine Octaviani was born in Jakarta, Indonesia. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical Engineering) from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Music in Performance (Piano) from Trinity Laban Conservatory of Music and Dance. Her principal teachers at Trinity Laban included Elena Riu, the late Simon Young, and Margaret Fingerhut. With a strong interest in music scholarship, she obtained a distinction in the L(Mus)TCL Diploma in Music Theory. In subsequent years, she was awarded the FLCM, and her research paper, Understanding Beethoven: His Maladies and Creative Genius, earned her a distinction in the FRSM.

As a pianist, Christine has collaborated extensively with instrumentalists in examinations and recitals. In recent years, she has appeared with the Joyeux Sinfonietta, performing Poulenc’s Piano Concerto at the Victoria Concert Hall, Singapore. She was also invited as a guest artist for the 11th and 12th Singapore Flute Festivals. In her earlier years, Christine was a percussionist with the Raffles Girls’ School and Raffles Junior College Symphonic Bands, and an active member of the National University of Singapore Piano Ensemble, frequently performing in piano duo recitals.

Christine previously served as Head of the Piano Department at Mandeville Conservatory of Music, where she was responsible for developing music curricula for the Creative Musicianship classes. She is deeply committed to teaching, and her students have achieved notable success in music examinations, competitions, and college auditions.

She is currently an Associate Professor with Joyeux Music International, where she regularly adjudicates music festivals and conducts masterclasses. Christine is also an examiner with ABRSM, having presented at the Piano 2025–26 Syllabus Seminar and most recently adjudicated the ABRSM Piano Competition Finals in Malaysia.
