Ilona Then-Bergh started her career as a professional violinist at the young age of 19, becoming a member of the „Bayerisches Staatsorchester München“. Some years later she changed to the “Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks”.

In the meantime she has stopped performing in orchestras in order to be able to fully (and more intensively) devote herself to performing chamber music (since 2011 as member of the Piano Trio “Then-Bergh –Yang – Schäfer”) as well as teaching as professor for violin at the Musikhochschule München.

She serves also as juror on the panel of various violin competitions and holds a leading position in the committee of “Jugend Musiziert”. She has been awarded the “Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik” several times for her CD publications including Piano Trios by Saint-Saëns, Wolf-Ferrari, Schostakovich, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Sabaneev, Schubert and Violin Sonatas by Lazzari, Andreae, Krein, Delvincourt, Schmitt and Lajtha.

In 2020 the world premiere recording of the monumental “Konzerttrilogie für Violine und Klavier” by Paolo Litta appeared and received enthusiastic reviews in the leading music journals of Europe and America.
